What is an arm and adapter casket handle?Updated 3 months ago

An arm and adapter style casket handle is an assembly of two components that make a hinged style bracket for a casket handle.  The assembly consists of an adapter made from a progressive die-stamped piece of steel.  The adapter is secured to a casket side wall with two wood screws, and optionally, one machine screw that bolts through the wall of the casket.  The adapter has a 3 whole pattern (patented in the 1920s) that receives an arm that is inserted by hand and then bent upward closing two little tabs in two of the holes in the adapter forming a secure and economic hinge.  The steel arm has a strap that raps a bar shaped handle that is an oval or round bar stock made of steel or wood.
